How to pick the perfect engagement ring
19 July 2006
It is bad enough to have to commit to one boy until death do us part, but having to find one ring you want to wear everyday for the rest of your life is a big decision. So how do you choose an engagement ring you will be happy with in the decades to come? Maybe you are on the other side of this, and are trying to find an engagement ring that she will say yes to. First, try taking our What engagement ring are you quiz? absolutely free. Then look at our selection of unique engagement rings to see if anything catches your eye. Next:
Look in your jewelry box: Open up your jewelry box. What shape of stones are there, what color metals? Is the jewelry mostly inherited, or are there a lot of brightly colored beads?
Take a trip down memory lane: Think back 5 years, you are probably thinking “Wow, I didn’t know anything then, I have improved so much”. When you think back 5 years from now, you will probably be thinking the same thing, I know I do. What hasn’t changed over the years? If you have a list of your perfect wedding, look at it and see what has always stayed constant.
Shoes: What are you favorite pair of shoes? What do they say about you?
Budget: Being practical is no fun, but how important is your ring to you. Are you willing to keep paying on it after you are married, or would you like a less expensive ring that you can upgrade on your anniversary?
Test Drive: Buy several cz rings in different sizes and shapes, and wear them for a few days. You probably want to use them on your right hand or you will scare away your prospective husband. See what looks best on your hand and what you get tired of looking at.
Through the years I have gone from wanting a traditional engagement ring, to wanting 3 separate stackable diamond rings, to a sapphire and finally ended up at an alexandrite ring. I have been wanting an alexandrite engagement ring for 3-4 years now, so maybe that is the one I will ultimately choose. Or, I will just make him buy me all the rings I want so I have some diversity. It’s a wonder I’m not married yet, it really is.
