Eloping Without Fights
28 October 2006If you look in the sidebar you
might notice a new category, wedding. No I’m not making any announcements,
still haven’t found a boy that is good enough to marry me. When I do though I
want to elope, but with my family there. So here are some ideas to have a
super cool elopement that won’t make all the "uninvited" people angry.
Prepare: This is a big step. People will need some time to adjust
to the idea. So right after my engagement (if that ever happens) I will
start telling people my plans.
Website: Set up a wedding website. Share your story & pictures.
Share all the stuff they would’ve learned at a wedding, what is "your song",
favorite food etc.
Announcements: You can still send out wedding announcements. This
shows people that you want them to know that you are getting married, & they
are worth spending a stamp on. Even include a handwritten note of why they are
special to you & how they have helped you become who you are. People most
likely won’t get mad if you compliment them & express your love & appreciation
to them.
Be Honest: Not brutally honest, but nice honest. Explain your reasons,
whether they are the cost of the wedding, time, whatever it is, just explain.
Make it Special: Yes jeans & t-shirts in a Vegas 24 hour chapel may sound
like a good idea now, but will you be embarrassed if you are telling your kids
about this someday? What is important to you? For me it is
photographs, immediate family, & a wedding dress, oh & a groom, so my elopement
will include those things. A fancy dinner & lots of presents &
wedding cake aren’t important to me so my elopement won’t include those.
So what would you want on your super cool elopement? Anymore suggestions?
Leave a comment & let me know.
