Mary Tyler Moore might not be who comes to mind when you think of the best dressed women of all time. Sure, her apartment forever made it cool to hang a single letter on the wall. The “Mary Tyler Moore Show” forever changed ideas of women holding a man’s job, but fashion? However, she was one of the first women to wear pants on TV. I always think of capri pants when I think of Mary Tyler Moore. I also think that she was one of the few people who can actually wear capri pants & look good. Other Mary classics: dark lipstick, & a peacoat. Anytime I visit a big city I throw a hat up in the air. I don’t even wear hats, but I bring one just for classic “Mary Tyler Moore” show re-creation. I should say something cheesy about “she can turn the world on with her smile”, but I’ll refrain. She helped define women through the critical black & white to color tv transition. So many things changed during that time & Mary Tyler Moore did it with style & grace.

Yes, she had a reason to wear a tiara, she was actually a princess. She showed the world that you can help people & still look good. Her wedding dress style is still sought after today, well at least in Utah. Utah really isn’t the height of fashion. Yes, there were all the unfortunate shoulder pad suits, but it was the 1980′s, you had to wear shoulder pads or they kicked you out of the 1980′s. Then came a seires of sleek dresses that still make the best prom dresses. Princess Di showed us what a princess was, both inside & out. She had a brilliant smile & a brilliant life. Wow, that’s unusually sappy of me, but she was a PRINCESS she got to wear a tiara every single day. The woman is my idol.

When I think of Jackie Kennedy I always think of a Chanel suit & a pill box hat. This makes me think that I need to get a pillbox hat, but they are harder to fine than one might think. Especially when I am easily distracted by anything shiny & stores usually contain many shiny things. We also have to thank Jackie for a large pearl necklace. The woman had class & never took a bad picture. Jewelry wise, she wore a lot of crosses, all different kinds of crosses, but mostly emeralds, diamonds, rubies & sapphires. I also think of charm bracelets. Her jewelry collection also included a large number of brooches. We’ve & by we, I mean me, have had a love/hate thing with brooches. For a long time I thought they were very matronly but recently I have fallen in love with them because they look so great on a wool coat. It’s style like that, which makes Jackie Kennedy one of the best dressed women of all time.
