Walk of fame

Walk of Fame Animated codes - ImageChef.com I’m one of the few people I know that doesn’t want to be a celebrity.  Yes, I would love all the jewelry, but one of my goals in life is to never be on the TV.  I just couldn’t handle all the pressure.  There are certain perks though, like having your name put on the walk of fame. Today, I came across ImageChef, which lets you generate cool graphics for free & you don’t even have to download anything.  This is the closest I will ever be to seeing my name on the walk of fame but it’s satisfying in some odd way. I don’t even have to be on TV either.

Women you haven’t heard of but should know: Jody Williams

The next on the list of women you haven’t heard of, but should know about is Jody Williams.  Jody is an American teacher who saw a problem, & worked to fix it. She helped to spearhead the Ottawa Treaty in 1997, which is an international treaty banning antipersonnel land mines. She accomplished this through the use of a fax machine.  From Wikipedia, I got the quote

"Imagine trying to get hundreds of organizations – each one independent and working on many, many issues – to feel that each is a critical element of the development of a new movement. I wanted each to feel that what they had to say about campaign planning, thinking, programs, actions was important. So, instead of sending letters, I’d send everyone faxes. People got in the habit of faxing back. This served two purposes – people would really have to think about what they were committing to doing before writing it down, and we have a permanent, written record of almost everything in the development of the campaign from day one."

In 1997 Jody was named as one of Forbes most 100 powerful women. She also received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.

Bribe

I’m not a huge Christmas fan. It is a lot of work & is usually just exhausting. So at Christmastime, I like to have a little incentive to not start throwing dinner rolls at people. So I buy myself a gift & put it away for after Christmas. It reminds me to keep things together so I can get a prize. In 2006 the bribe to myself was these blue topaz, peridot & sterling silver earrings that were only $5.99. The blue topaz are 4mm & the peridot are 6×4. I love how these move, when I wear these, I spend a lot more time looking in the mirror. They were definitely worth not losing my cool.
