22 March 2007I’ve always been envious of people who are born in march. I think that the aquamarine is one of the coolest birthstones, & something I would seriously consider for my engagement ring, (well first, I have to find a boy, then I can consider it for my engagement ring). I love how it has a very faint color, but it doesn’t look like a diamond. An aquamarine will go with any outfit, & it has a very antique, vintage feel to it. Just some tidbits I got from Wikipedia about Aquamarine.
- In the Middle Ages it was thought that aquamarine could cure poisoning.
- Ancient sailors thought that mermaids fish scales were made of aquamarine.
- Ancient sailors also slept with aquamarine under their pills to ensure safe passage.
- Aqua means water.
I don’t know of different kinds of aquamarine the way there are lots of different colors of garnet. Aquamarine’s vary from a very light almost white to a deep blue to an aqua color. However, with every aqua being so beautiful, I’m happy with the narrow selection of colors. Poisoning, mermaids, & sailors it has to be the coolest birthstone ever.
