Diamonds you can afford tip #10

There are two kinds of people in this world, those that buy designer jeans & those who don’t.  I’m one of the ones who don’t.  I think a lot of women don’t buy diamonds because they don’t think they can afford them.  They see the commercials & the designers are asking so much money, that they never dare entertain the thought. To me buying designer jewelry is a little silly, because there aren’t any labels on it, with the exception of a few pieces of jewelry that has the companies name engraved on it. However, here are some ways that you can get the designer look on a budget.

  • Decide what it is about the designer piece that you like, is it the color, or the shape.  Decide what you would be willing to compromise on & what you absolutely must have. Also, be sure & set your price range so you don’t get in trouble when you go shopping.
  • Try a piece of jewelry in silver instead of white gold.
  • Change your mindset.  It’s not necessarily true that everything designer is of better quality, it just means that you are paying a lot more money for it.
  • Take a picture of the inspiration jewelry shopping with you, so you don’t forget what it looks like. It’s also good to carry it around with you for awhile so you make sure that this is something you really want to spend money on & isn’t just a passing fad.
  • Go for quality. It’s not a good deal if you are going to be ashamed to wear it, no matter the price. Designer pieces tend to be heavier on the gold so go for a bolder look

Black Diamonds

10kt Wg 1.00ctw Irradiated Black Diamond Circle Slide With Chain 18kt Over Sterling Silver 1.05ctw Blue Sapphire With Diamond Accent Double Circle Pendant With Chain Never trust anyone who tries to sell you a black sapphire. A black sapphire is really just a low quality blue sapphire. However, you can find low quality blue sapphires for not a lot of money & they look almost identical to a black diamond. Plus, sapphires are one of the hardest gemstones, so it will still be durable like a diamond. Just keep in mind that black diamond jewelry usually comes in smaller accent stones as pictured above, so keep the size of the stones believable.  Also black diamonds are seen in more contemporary, trendy pieces.  This is a great way to get a piece of jewelry that is on the edge of fashion, in a natural gemstone, without spending a lot of money.

Katherine Hepburn Style

I think if most of us had to classify our everyday style as a movie star, it would be Katharine Hepburn.  She was the queen of the casual look, & comfort was key.  This is something that most us look for.  Here is how I think her style would be updated for today.

Pants & sneakers. Comfort doesn’t have to look frumpy if they are of a high quality & well cut.

Confidence. Katharine Hepburn had a style all her own, & she knew that & was proud of it.

Know your strengths. Once again, Katharine knew what worked for her & what didn’t, she didn’t try to look like anyone else.

Perfect hair & make up. This lends an air of sophistication to an otherwise humdrum outfit & shows that you actually care.

I think Katharine Hepburn’s style is very easy to live in, while still being classic & sophisticated. While she once called her look "bag lady", her style has lasted for years & will endure for many more.
