Where have all the hats gone?

Easter shopping this year, I didn’t see a lot of hats.  This made me realize that I never see a lot of hats.  I’m not talking about baseball caps, I see plenty of those, but the nice flowery hats that ladies used to wear to church.  Whatever happened to those? Here are some reasons why I think that hats should come back:

1.  They hide not perfect hair.

2.  Hats are the great equalizer, no one really looks good in them, but they are interesting to look at.

3.  You rarely see a woman in a nice hat, with the rest of her looking dumpy.  A good hat inspires you to have nice hair, a flawless outfit, & even accessories.

4.  Hats show that you care about your appearance.  A hat isn’t necessary, it’s like going the extra mile in fashion, saying I thought about every single detail.

5.  Hat boxes.  I love a nice hat box, but I’ve never actually owned one because of my lack of hats.

So with all of my lofty goals in life, here is another one, to own at least one nice hat, & not be ashamed to wear it just because no one else seems to wear hats anymore.  Plus, I mustn’t forget the hat box.

Eye opening shopping spree

I came across the coolest store the other day. It was a consignment shop, but it only dealt in trendy clothes from nice stores that were less than a year old. It was a sea of purses, handbags, & designer jeans. I’m usually pretty good with money, & fairly responsible. However, I saw shoes, & a purse that went with the shoes, & then of course I needed new jewelry to go with the new purse & shoes, & then a new outfit to go with all of my accessories. Then I saw another handbag that I wanted & everything was less than what I would pay at the mall, everything was such a great deal & it started all over again.

I didn’t have the money to buy everything I wanted, but there were these credit cards that were burning a hole in my pocket. I don’t have bad credit, the problem is I just don’t have a lot of credit because I’m still young, it’s really something that I need to start building. However, I need to be buying things on my credit card that I would’ve bought if I had the cash in hand, not use it as free money, but as a way to build my credit for the future. In order to do this, I think the right thing for me is to only buy things that I can pay back.

In that store was the first time that I understood how people get in trouble with credit cards. There is just an irresistible temptation to have everything now, & not realize how little things add up. I never would have dared to put $500 on a credit card, but I didn’t think of it as $500. I thought of it as a pair of shoes here, & a new purse there. Luckily, I realized that it is not free money & that I could satisfy myself by just buying my favorite thing, it’s ok to leave something left in the store.

The Easter Dress

One of my favorite parts of Easter, is the new Easter dress.  However, I seem to always make the mistake of either thinking I should look like some sort of pastel marshmallow, or I end up looking like a Senator’s wife, even though I’m only 24.  Even worse I end up looking like I’m four years old. The very worst part is that I do this to myself, I pick out the dress every yeas that will make me either look twenty years younger or twenty years older than I actually am.  I guess it’s because I have the phrase "Easter dress" stuck in my head, there just aren’t that many dresses to choose from, there is a reason why I usually wear a skirt & shirt for dressy occasions. I guess I just want to be extra sophisticated on Easter, but it always seems to come out wrong.  I rarely wear my Easter dress more than once.

For some people, they think of Easter colors as blue & white because their mom’s always dressed them in sailor suits, so that is what they gravitate towards.  I try to think of spring colors with lots of frills & lace, & some sort of jacket & skirt.  This year, I went a different route & just bought a simple cotton skirt & a great black t-shirt, the entire outfit cost me less than $20.  It wasn’t the most Eastery-y look, although I did wear cute earrings with the outfit for one tiny splash of color.  However, it was a super comfortable outfit that I could wear all day.  I usually end up hating my Easter dress & Easter shoes because of how uncomfortable it is, & how much older I feel.  With this outfit though I can break it up into pieces for everyday wear, even if it wasn’t all that "Easter-y".  What is your idea of an Easter dress?
