Blue Diamond Substitute
25 April 2007One of these gemstones is a .30 carat blue diamond for around $80, the other one is a 5 carat london blue topaz for $32.88. This is a great trick if you are an April Baby, or just can’t afford a five carat blue diamond, (& who can?). London Blue Topaz is very close to the color of blue diamonds. I like taking this route more than getting a CZ, because this still has value & is a natural gemstone. It isn’t trying to be anything else, it is what it is. However, if you would like to make the London blue topaz look more high end here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Keep the gemstone in a traditional cut, such as a round diamond. While some of the newer cuts are cool, this says "This stone is too precious to try anything crazy on it".
- Set it in a high end setting. If you want to use white diamonds as accents, make sure that they are clear, or use white topaz & lots of gold & silver.
- Simple is better. Let the stone speak for itself & don’t try to cover it up with an intricate setting.
Still don’t know which gemstone is which? I’ll never tell.
