Lessons learned from Princess Di

20 May 2007

When I was in college my adviser was always horrified that I wanted to major in being a princess. I figured that I was a natural for the job because I look great in a tiara & specialize in bossing people around. It just seemed like a solid fit for a career path. Apparently,  being a princess is not all that it has cracked up to be. Princess Diana showed us that there is a different side to royalty. Even Princess’s don’t get along with their mother in laws. Even being married to a prince isn’t always perfect. There is a lot of pressure that comes along with the job. However, princess Diana showed us what the word princess really means. She taught me that:

1. Even princesses have problems. With all that she was going through she’s still kept charity work a huge priority.

2. Other people may have used her position for their own personal gain. I probably would have just concentrated on how many sparkly things that I could wear at one time. She used her title as princess to make the world a better place.

3. Most of all, Diana taught us that one person can make a difference. Former President Bill Clinton said of her

In 1987, when so many still believed that AIDS could be contracted through casual contact, Princess Diana sat on the sickbed of a man with AIDS and held his hand. She showed the world that people with AIDS deserve no isolation, but compassion and kindness. It helped change world’s opinion, and gave hope to people with AIDS.

4. She taught us that we need to tackle the big problems in the world, even if they are overwhelming, even if we don’t know what to do. We will never find solutions by standing still.

Princess Di taught us a lot about style, & grace. She became a fashion icon. More importantly, she taught us how to become a good person & how to care.
