Free Garnet Earrings

24 December 2007

Update: This contest is now closed, check the sidebar for the latest contest.

I don’t know if this is an urban legend or not. I’ve heard it attributed to several people, so I don’t know if it’s a myth or if a lot of college professors are doing this. The story goes that a class fervently studies for their final college exam. There is only one question on the test “What is the name of the cleaning lady?”.

I’ve been a waitress before, it seemed like no one cared who I was. They didn’t stop to consider I was a human, or not a superhero before they made impossible demands or complaints. During these times, I’d look at a piece of jewelry & remember that I was more than a waitress. So every week I try to pass on this feeling to others by giving away a piece of jewelry. The winner can either keep the jewelry, or pass it on to someone who’s having a bad day or feels unappreciated. To enter, just read the rules & then leave a comment with a random act of kindness, or who you would give this jewelry away to & why. You can even leave a trackback or link to a blog post.

The prize this week are sterling silver genuine garnet stud earrings weighing .95 total carat weight. The picture didn’t seem to be working, I’ll work on it after the holidays, but these are pretty I promise.

The rules:

One entry per person per week.

Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special. Winner will be chosen by a random number generator at 6pm on Friday Mountain Time.

Contestants should be over 18 & live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. If you’ve already won a Random Act of Bling, you can win again, but please give the jewelry away at random.

Comments should be about a random act of kindness or who you would give this jewelry to & why.

If you want to link or stumble this post it would be appreciated but is not required.

One time, when I was still in Middle School, my older brother came home from a New Year’s party totally smashed. He was really sick and in a bad state, so my mom and I stayed up late into the night taking care of him. When I got up in the morning, he was passed out on the couch. It was cold, so I brought down a big blanket and put it over him.

If I had those earrings, i’d give them to a special someone. :)
Good luck to everyone who enters!

It is very small thing but I have been passing out coupons to random people when I am out. The big one is buy one get one free for starbucks. I also have been giving other coupons to people such as diaper/baby stuff to moms, food ones to people in the checkout lane. I have been leaving coupons on shelves on the products they are for. I like to give the baby ones to moms who look like they are stuggling. When I give the coupons to people they seem surprized but grateful. Just trying to spread a little cheer and save people some money too!

A stranger walked up to me in the Walmart parking lot and slipped a $20 bill into my hand and said, “Merry Christmas, The LORD has been very good to me this year and I wanted to bless someone.” That was much needed at the time!!

I’d like to walk up to a stranger like this and hand them this pair of earrings.

    blogged ya:

I am a retired homebaker and I usually don’t do this, but I decided to enter this as I do have a purpose for these earrings should I win.

I bake cakes as a part-time living now that I retired, and I saw a child one day whose birthday it was how did not get a cake. This touched me so much, that I instantly went home and baked her a cake. Since then, I contacted the local Foster Parents Association and for children not placed on their birthdays, I bake cakes so that they can celebrate their birthdays. No child should have an uncelebrated birthday.

If I should win the earrings, there is a teenage girl in the foster parents program who will be turning 18 in February, who will be leaving the program that I would love to give the earrings to. She has been shuffeled around from home to home and I believe disserves something really nice.
