Usually the idea of a costume makes me feel like I need progesterone. It just immediately makes me feel panicked. Whenever I say that I’m not going to dress up someone says that I’ve lost my child like spirit. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love the idea of a day devoted to the mass consumption of candy. What with all the news of people judging your personality based on your costume, it just seems to have lost all of its fun.
There is only one Halloween costume that I’ve really envied. It was on the Martha Stewart Show a few years ago. The whole audience had dressed up. One woman was wearing a sleek velvet bodysuit & then there was a long train the back that fanned out into a peacock tail. Unfortunately, that person can sew & has patience. I don’t. What is your dream costume?

I know several people who spend months planning their Halloween costumes. They even break out the sewing machine. I am not one of those people. Usually, I think, “Oh, Halloween, do we still do that? Give me candy.” Here are a few traditional costume ideas that you can break out at the last second:
- Ghost. I’ve actually never been a ghost but it seems like it would just require a sheet & some scissors.
- The Ghost costume on It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. The same as above, just cut a few more holes in the costumer.
- Mummy. Also the same as above, but cut strips instead of holes.
- Undercover cop

There have always been a lot of choices for Halloween costumes for couples. Usually these seems to be along the lines of Anthony & Cleopatra or Romeo or Juliet. This year, I’m finding it difficult to find a costume that is just for one person. It’s not like I can go as the eggs without the bacon, or half of a skyline. Sure, I expect to be asked about my marital status if I’m getting a term life insurance quote. However, can’t a single girl find a costume without thinking she’s half of something? Is Halloween turning into the new Valentine’s Day?
