The downside to wearing vintage clothes

If life wasn’t so expensive, I’d spend all of my money on vintage clothes. I know that there are necessities like home owner insurance & food. However, if money wasn’t an object & I could have my dream wardrobe, it would be from the 40s & 50s. I would wear cute pillbox hats & tailored suits. However, there is a downside to wearing vintage clothing, such as:

1. These items can be quite expensive.

2. Most of the clothes require dry cleaning.

3. They need to be ironed to look good.

4. They aren’t the latest style. I’m always afraid to have a complete vintage style complete with the hair & makeup. I feel like I’m in costume.

5. Even if the clothes are in good shape with no visible flaws, they are still 40-60 years old.

6. Not as comfortable as wearing a hoodie & jeans.

I think that I’ll buy a few vintage pieces that I love & then go from there. I can’t help but think “They are so pretty, I want them all NOOOOW.”

The upside to wearing vintage clothes

I have become obsessed with vintage clothes, specifically “The New Look” of the 40s & 50s. Before I spend a lot of money revamping my wardrobe I thought that I better weigh the pros & the cons of vintage clothing. The upside seems to be:

1. Vintage clothes are often as affordable, if not more affordable than other clothes.

2. It’s unlikely that you are going to show up at a dinner party wearing the same dress from the 1950s as someone else.

3. These items are usually finely crafted with handmade details like beading.

4. These clothes were made for what t I call “normal sized women”. It’s always important to look & feel your best. Whether you take diet pills is a personal decision. However, these clothes seem to be tailored more to an 8-12 size. They look modern & sleek even if you aren’t a size 2.

5. Dresses usually have sleeves, are knee length, & don’t show too much up top. If dressing modestly is important to you, vintage clothing opens up a whole new array of options.
