Garnet Ring Contest

Update:  This contest is now closed, but a new one will start on Monday.

Since it’s a recession, I know that a lot of people are cutting back. I try to give away jewelry at random to make someone feel special because that’s someone we forget about as adults. I still have a stash of jewelry so I’ll keep this going as long as I can because I think it’s needed more than ever. The winner can keep the jewelry or give it away. To enter the contest just read the rules & then leave a comment with who you would give this to & why or a random act of kindness. The prize this week is a unisex sterling & genuine garnet band ring in a size ten. The front of the ring is slanted, like a three sided hexagon. Yes, my descriptive skills are amazing this morning.

The Rules:

Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special. Winner will be chosen by a random number generator at 6pm on Friday Mountain Time.

Contestants should be over 18 & live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. I won’t sell or abuse your mailing address.

If you’ve already won a Random Act of Bling, you can win again, but please give the jewelry away at random.

Please leave a valid e-mail address, this is how I will contact you if you win. If I can’t reach you then I might have to relist your prize.

If you want to link or stumble this post it would be appreciated but is not required.

Comment/trackback/link should be about a random act of kindness or who you would give this jewelry to & why.

Fashion trends I do understand

Here are a few fashion trends that I think actually make sense.

1. Recently there has been a wave of cosmetics available in pen & marker form. These include everything from eye liner to nail polish. Finally, I may be able to apply eye liner. I doubt it, but at least there’s a shot.

2. Mineral Glow & Mineral Booster. The first time I tried mineral makeup I just didn’t get what the big deal was. Then I learned to apply it correctly & I understood why people go crazy over it. It hides imperfections without feeling heavy. I really love the mineral booster, one of the tag lines I’ve seen for it is “photo shop for your face.” Finally!

3. Big purses. On “What not to Wear” they recommend these because they make your hips look smaller. Enough said.

4. I was having trouble defining exactly what style is in style right now & that’s a good thing. I learned from all those personalized books when I was a kid that we are all snowflakes. Why should we all dress the same or like the same things?

5. Enamel & resin jewelry. It’s pretty, it’s cheap, it’s colorful.

Fashion trends I don’t understand

I wouldn’t say that I’m a fashionista. I rarely find anything to ohh & ahh over at fashion shows. I spend more time looking at pet supplements than magazines. If I had to define my style it would be “non ugly”. Having said that, here are a few fashion trends that I don’t understand.

  • Bug eye glasses. I’m sure that whoever first manufactured these glasses did it purely as a joke. It reminds me of that episode of “I Love Lucy” where Ricky & Fred tell Lucy & Ethel that the latest fashions are dresses made out of potato sacks. Eventually, even the models start wearing them.
  • Skinny jeans. Maybe I detest these just because no matter the size I can’t fit into them. I just always thought that jeans were supposed to be comfortable & look good.
  • Glasses from the 60′s. There’s been a recent trend for people to wear glasses that remind me of my grandmother, even men are wearing them.
  • Belts. This may be one of those styles that I’m jealous of because I don’t know exactly how to wear them. I mean, I know how to put them through a belt loop. I don’t know how to match them to shoes & a purse. I don’t know what kind of shirt to wear them with or where on my waist it should fall. It takes a totally utilitarian look & makes it confusing.
  • Pea green.
  • Bermuda shorts.
  • Gladiator sandals. I think these were the precursors to actual shoes for a reason. They make it look like people have fat feet. I don’t know what the shoe equivalent of muffin top is. They can’t be comfortable.
  • Maternity tops for women who aren’t pregnant. I’m all for 70′s fashion & loose styles but whenever I see a shirt that ties in the back I think maternity wear.
  • Pea green Bermuda shorts paired with bug eye glasses & gladiator sandals.
