Amethyst Bracelet Contest

amethystbraceletness.jpg

Contest is closed but a new one starts on Monday!

Jerry Lewis at the Oscars last night said while he was receiving a Humanitarian Award:

For most of my life, I’ve thought that doing good for someone didn’t mean you would receive commendation for that act of kindness – at least until now

I sat there thinking, but you’re Jerry Lewis, everyone knows how you host all those telethons. It really drove home to me the fact that most of us wonder if we are really doing any good or if we really even matter in the bigger scheme of things. This is why I give away jewelry at random every week, because I believe in people & what they can do. The winner can either keep the jewelry or pass it on to someone else. To enter the contest leave a comment with who you would give this to & why or a random act of kindness.

The prize this week is a 70 carat amethyst cabochon bracelet set in sterling silver. It’s a little over 7″.

The Rules:

Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special. Winner will be chosen by a random number
generator at 6pm on Friday Mountain Time.

Contestants should be over 18 & live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. I won’t sell or abuse your
mailing address.

If you’ve already won a Random Act of Bling, you can win again, but please give the jewelry away at random.

Please leave a valid e-mail address, this is how I will contact you if you win. The subject line of the email will say something like
“Random Acts of Bling: You Won” I’ll also announce the winner in a blog post. If I can’t reach you then I might
have to relist your prize.

If you want to link or stumble this post it would be appreciated but is not required.

Comment/trackback/link should be about a random act of kindness or who you would give this jewelry to & why.

The Best Oscar Dress

I’m not a huge fan of the Oscars. I usually just look at the pictures the day after to see who had the prettiest dress. It seems like you can always tell who had the best dress by how they change the prom dress styles the following year. It’s a big deal every year about who will wear what & then who wore what & what they should have worn. I really think that if there was an Oscar track suit that everyone had to wear like at the Olympics, it wouldn’t even be televised. Here are the only Oscar dresses I remember:

Sharon Stone was the big actress in 1996. Everyone was talking about which designer she would wear. She turned up in a black tshirt from the Gap & some random black skirt. She wasn’t wearing a lot of make up or fancy diamonds. Funny, that she is the only person from that year that doesn’t look outdated now.

I’ve never really heard Bjork’s music. I don’t think that most people have heard Bjork’s music. However, everyone remembers that some girl wore a swan dress to the 2001 Oscars. I wouldn’t say that she was best dressed but I would say that she was very brave. She’s voted as one of the worst dressed people ever just because of this one occasion. Most people would agree that she would have had better luck if she’d tried to make her own dress with a box cutter & some duct tape. At least she became infamous. Plus, it’s one of the few dresses that stands out in my actual memory.

I also remember a dress that Nicole Kidman wore in 1997. She was voted as one of the best dressed that year. This was back when she was still with Tom Cruise. I remember seeing the dress & thinking “It’s either really pretty or really ugly.” Apparently the color is called absinthe-green. I don’t know what that means. However, I’ve decided over the years that it’s really pretty.

What is your favorite Oscar dress?

The practical side

I was just watching “The Bad & the Beautiful”. It’s about old Hollywood movies. They were giving this former screw up actress a shot. I love these kinds of movies because they help me relax. Yes sometimes I need to think about work or pvc fence installation but other times it’s nice just to dream. I’ve always wanted to wear a big puffy dress & walk down a staircase like in the movies.

In this movie the seamstress was saying that the actress couldn’t pull off the dress. I was confused because the dress looked perfect on her. It had a train & it was impossible for her to turn around in. She said only a certain kind of person could wear that kind of dress. Even when the actress learned how to walk she still wasn’t allowed to sit down. I bet that the dress is really heavy too. I’ve never thought about the practical side of it. I guess it isn’t all as magical as I thought.
