One of my favorite shows is Intervention on A&E because I think that substance abuse will effect most families in one way or the other. In a lot of cases the patients have to detox before they can ever go to treatment. I guess it usually takes like eight days.
I think in some of these cases the people are just so scared of the physical pain that going through a rapid detox might really help them agree to get treatment. Of course then they still need to follow up with a lot of counseling. Plus, for this kind of procedure there really should be an extensive research and interview process. It isn’t covered by medical insurance but for some people it may be the right decision.
