The Cost of Fabric

On last week’s episode of Project Runway I thought that it was one of the most enlightening episodes I’d seen. I don’t know what certain things cost like laboratory furnaces, but I thought I knew what it cost to make a dress. The designers were challenged to actually focus on what it costs to make a garment. A lot of the designers had garments that would sell for $300-$500 in a retail setting. However, they were only allowed to spend under $50. It made me rethink how I feel about spending money on clothes. I’m really not getting a higher quality of fabric at that price tag; but it probably goes to labor, brand names, and mark ups. I have no idea that these expensive clothes were still using such cheap fabric.
