The random number generator chose the winner as usual. A new contest starts on Monday. Melinda won with her comment:
I would give this to my mom. Her birthday was on the 7th so it would be nice since its her birthstone. Our family has been through trials, hardships, and many happy times. I would love to tell her how special she is through them all.
One of my favorite gemstones is the Ceylon sapphire. I would love to have it for an engagement ring if Matt Damon ever asks me to marry him. Actually, it’s quite an inexpensive gemstone compared to diamonds, I’m just still waiting on Matt. Here are a few reasons why I love ceylon sapphires. (I shouldn’t have to elaborate on why I have a crush on Matt Damon).
1. Unusual shade of blue. To me, this color of blue goes with everything. I worry a little bit about having a sapphire engagement ring because I wear a lot of black & wouldn’t want the dark blue to clash. To me, blue topaz is great but a little too bright to wear everyday, so this shade of blue is perfect.
2. Sapphires are durable which make them a fantastic choice for everyday wear.
3. Traditional, but unique. That sounds like a contradiction, but sapphires have always been the obvious choice for a woman who wants a unique engagement ring. Princess Diana even had a sapphire engagement ring & if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for this wannabe princess.

I’ve seen green sapphires, blue, yellow, purple, pink, & even orange sapphires. I’ve always been told that red sapphires are rubies. However, I just found a red sapphire pendant & it looks a lot clearer than a ruby.
Granted, these sapphires were treated, but still. Yet another reason why September babies are so lucky, they can even have a red birthstone now. I don’t really know what this is all about. I didn’t think it was possible to have a red sapphire but now I want one.
