Necktie purse

The title of this post could also be “I wish I was braver.” I recently saw a tutorial on how to make a purse out of neckties. Then, I found an entire pile of neckties around the house. They are now sitting in the sewing room next to the huge pile of clothes that will never be mended. I love the way it looks & I have enough ties to make several purses, cell phone holders & maybe even a laptop carrier.

The only problem is that I’m scared. I can sew a straight line, which is pretty much all this project requires. I’m just terrified that I’ll mess up. I just know that one day I’ll be feeling really confident & someone will come up to me & say “Umm your necktie purse is breaking.” I haven’t been this worried about anything since the a/c compressor in my car went to heaven & I didn’t know how to fix it. It’s just fashion. I shouldn’t be so stressed out over it. Even more than that, it’s supposed to be a fun project. I guess I will try it & worst case scenario I can undo the ties & donate them to a thrift store.

A rite of passage

It was a rite of passage growing up, when I finally got my first perfume. Most of the other parts of growing up weren’t fun, but this was something I had been looking forward to, the fancy bottles all lined up in a row, with their bright colors that may or may not have mystical powers. The ability to smell like grapefruit or vanilla or whatever I chose, was a powerful one. It meant that I was growing up & could be trusted with such responsibilities. Trying to be as grown up as possible, I probably used way too much perfume at first, as I searched for my signature scent, one that I could afford. I still have a dream of lining up all of the empty bottles on my vanity, like they do in old movies. However, first I would need to not throw out the empty bottles & second I would need to buy a vanity, but it’s something to work towards. Even still, when I take out the perfume bottle, I feel more grown up & sophisticated & like it’s a special occasion, even though I use it everyday.

Already?

I’m only 24, but I read a lot. This has never been a problem until recently. I started noticing that all of the books that I had been given for Christmas seemed to be in a size 6 font. So I struggled & struggled & strained my eyes. Finally I gave up & decided that I would have to buy reading glasses. I went to a well known chain store & looked through the selection. I was discouraged because all of the styles were much too old for me, or too plain. If I was going to have to get reading glasses, I at least want them to be cute. Besides, the glasses were much more expensive than what I wanted to pay, especially for something that wasn’t pretty.

I was astounded when I went to AC Lens & saw that I could get cute hand painted reading glasses with a cute matching case for only half of what I would’ve paid at the store. I love all the styles & that there is something for every age & personality. The site is easy to use, & the design is pretty simple so the focus is on the glasses. The only thing that I would change is to have a section explaining the different powers & possibly a simple eye test or something to tell which power of lens is needed because obviously we can’t try on the reading glasses. Overall though, I am thrilled to have found the site. I was getting very discouraged with the selection that I found at the store, but now I can have cool reading glasses.
