You can impress all of your friends with your fake psychic abilities as well as your sense of fashion by guessing who is going to be on the best and worst dressed list of any awards show before the paper comes out. Sure there are some celebrities who are always going to make all of the slide shows and reels. These are the big names who wear dresses that look like they are being held on with clamps.

However, every year there are a few names who you just don’t know. These people will inevitably be the best and worst dressed. They are making the news because of the clothes not their names. It’s pretty easy to figure out which list they will be on using context clues. It’s a simple trick that works every time.

We all have people in our life who maybe we don’t thank enough. Really if you look around you’ll see that this is a common thread in a lot of people’s lives. It’s amazing that people keep giving without recognition. The idea behind this jewelry contest is that the winner can keep the jewelry or give it to someone else. It can be a reward for someone who’s doing a great job or just needs encouragement. In order to enter the contest make sure that your comment is about who you would give this to and why or a random act of kindness. The prize this week is a small fleur de lis sterling silver charm or pendant. There isn’t a chain with this.

The Rules:

Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special.

The winner will be chosen by a random number generator at 8pm on Sunday Mountain Time.

Contestants should be over 18 & live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. I won’t sell or abuse your mailing address.

If you’ve already won a Random Act of Bling, you can win again, but please give the jewelry away at random.

Please leave a valid e-mail address, this is how I will contact you if you win. The subject line of the email will say something like”Random Acts of Bling: You Won” I’ll also announce the winner in a blog post. If I can’t reach you then I might have to relist your prize.

If you want to link or stumble this post it would be appreciated but is not required.

Comment/trackback/link should be about a random act of kindness or who you would give this jewelry to & why.

Granted, getting that star style is easy. You just sell textbooks and wait for the hottest runway looks to hit the stores a few months alter. Granted these will be the more wearable, less expensive versions. I never really thought about what it takes celebrities to get these dresses in the first place. Then today I really realized it again when Christina Hendricks was talking about how she can’t get a dress because she isn’t a size 0. It’s even worse when you realize that she’s the most beautiful woman on the planet. Pair that with the fact that she’s been slammed repeatedly about her size on the red carpet with the whole “big girl, big dress” thing when she can’t even get most designers to lend her something that will fit. The designers are the ones missing out.

I’ll admit that I don’t usually watch award shows. Instead, I watch my regular programs and then I browse online photos to make my own best dressed list. If my favorite shows aren’t on then I just watch blu ray movies and look at the pictures. I rarely look at a lot of the other lists because I rarely agree with the best and worst dressed. This year I have to say that surprisingly Tina Fey’s dress was one of my favorites. I think that Christina Hendricks was probably my favorite although the picture kinda confounds me. I guess they think it’s perfectly appropriate to take a picture of one of TV’s leading ladies when she’s scrunched up next to a traffic cone when everyone else gets their dress fanned out.

This contest is now closed but a new one starts soon. Chantel won with her comment:

we were moving in to a new home in a new corner of this country. I was too old for it, but I felt incredibly lost, alone, and so very homesick for the place I knew so well that we’d left behind that day as we moved boxes around and unloaded our belongings. It was just after thanksgiving day and we hadn’t even had a meal, because our possessions were on a truck, traveling our way still.

I’ll never forget that knock on the door. A beautiful little Hispanic lady stood there, holding out a box of holiday cookies. “Welcome to this place!” she said, and smiled. I never saw her again, and I’m really not sure where she came from, but as she walked away, I watched her with tears in my eyes. I doubt she’ll ever know what those cookies meant.

The idea behind random acts of bling is that kindness perpetuates. The winner can keep this or give it away to someone else. In either event to enter the contest read the rules and then leave a comment with who you would give this to and why or a random act of kindness.

The prize this week is a sterling silver heart pendant. I don’t have a chain for this.

The Rules:

Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special.

Something about Gilmore Girls always makes me want to shop for coats. Granted, I live in a warmer climate but I’m just excited for summer to be over. In the warmer months I tend to focus more on work or insurance for ipads than fashion because it’s just so difficult to achieve a cool looking summer style that is modest. Even if there’s not snow I can still use a cute coat (which I’m still on a search for). I get to try out my new dark wash jeans and gray suede boots. Overall, I’ll just feel a lot better about my fashion instead of trying to figure out how to look cute in capris even though no one in the world looks good in capris.

You know how most girls have that one picture of them in a sailor suit? Like there’s about to be a marine spotlight on them and they are all dressed up in blue and white? I don’t have one of those pictures. In fact I’ve never even wanted one. In my quest to dress for summer I’ve realized that a lot of the colors and patterns at least from the vintage era were nautical inspired. I guess it’s something I wasn’t a part of simply because I live far away from water of any type. I’m trying to think how this would actually translate into a grown up getting dressed. I know Carrie from …& the City wore several sailor outfits on the show but I’m just not that daring.
