Unwearable fashions
Written on 7 November 2008 by PrincessI keep seeing sweater dresses in every store. I think “Ohhh, I live in Utah. That would keep me warm when I actually have to wear a dress. A sweater dress would travel very well, even if I was going on a vacation to a far away place like Outer Banks rentals. Besides, it’s super cute & affordable.”
Then I go to try on the cute sweater dress & it’s see through & it clings in all of the wrong places. I don’t know if these sweater dresses are supposed to be worn with skinny jeans & boots or as dresses. I don’t own skinny jeans or boots. The reasonable solution would be to say “I don’t look good in sweater dresses.” Then I could move on. Instead I think “Ohhh look it’s a sweater dress, maybe this one will look good on me.” They never do but I just keep trying.
The Dynasty Jacket
Written on 5 November 2008 by Princess
I was looking at a contest at ebillme & was trying to think of a shopping confession. For a chance at $33,000 in prizes I could surely think of something. I especially like the fact that you can enter the contest in text or video form.
I try to be responsible with my online shopping so I didn’t think that I had any deep, dark, shopping secrets. Then I remembered: the Dynasty jacket. I call it the Dynasty jacket because it looks like it should be on a certain TV show that took place decades ago. See?

I bought this jacket in the mall at a store geared towards teenagers. I was feeling old so I decided to shop in a store that I don’t usually frequent. I ended up buying this tan & white striped jacket with gold buttons. I didn’t think that it looked “hip”, but it was in a hip store, so surely it must be. I’m not even sure that it’s a proper jacket because it doesn’t have sleeves. This confession would probably be ok if I had done this in the 1980’s but I commited this fashion crime two years ago.
I’ve never worn this jacket. I never will wear this jacket. I just feel bad about giving it away because someone else might actually wear it. So it just hangs in the closet, reminding me of my mistake. It just goes to show that we all have shopping confessions, even if you are a princess. If you sign up for the contest it would be great if you can refer my blog url. So go & tell your secrets & possibly win prizes! At the very least it’s cathartic to get the skeltons out of the closet.
Citrine Earrings Contest
Written on 3 November 2008 by Princess
Update: This contest is now cloed but a new one will start on Monday.
Every week I give away a piece of jewelry to brighten someone’s day & remind them that they are special. It’s my way of doing a random act of kindness, but with sparkly stuff. I never know who the jewelry will end up with or what effect, if any, it will have. The winner can either keep the jewelry or pass it on to someone else. To enter the contest read the rules & then leave a comment with who you would give this to & why or a random act of kindness.
The prize this week are a pair of genuine citrine & sterling silver dangle earrings. These earrings are about 1 & 1/4″ & feature round & pear cut citrines. Citrine is the birthstone for November.
The Rules:
Please don’t sell the jewelry, it’s to make whoever receives it feel special. Winner will be chosen by a random number
generator at 6pm on Friday Mountain Time.Contestants should be over 18 & live in the lower 48 states because I’ll be paying shipping. I won’t sell or abuse your
mailing address. If you’ve already won a Random Act of Bling, you can win again, but please give the jewelry away at random. Please leave a valid e-mail address, this is how I will contact you if you win. If I can’t reach you then I might have to relist
your prize. If you want to link or stumble this post it would be appreciated but is not required.Comment/trackback/link should be about a random act of kindness or who you would give this jewelry to & why.
My Dream Costume
Written on 29 October 2008 by PrincessUsually the idea of a costume makes me feel like I need progesterone. It just immediately makes me feel panicked. Whenever I say that I’m not going to dress up someone says that I’ve lost my child like spirit. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love the idea of a day devoted to the mass consumption of candy. What with all the news of people judging your personality based on your costume, it just seems to have lost all of its fun.
There is only one Halloween costume that I’ve really envied. It was on the Martha Stewart Show a few years ago. The whole audience had dressed up. One woman was wearing a sleek velvet bodysuit & then there was a long train the back that fanned out into a peacock tail. Unfortunately, that person can sew & has patience. I don’t. What is your dream costume?
Free Costume Ideas
Written on 29 October 2008 by PrincessI know several people who spend months planning their Halloween costumes. They even break out the sewing machine. I am not one of those people. Usually, I think, “Oh, Halloween, do we still do that? Give me candy.” Here are a few traditional costume ideas that you can break out at the last second:
- Ghost. I’ve actually never been a ghost but it seems like it would just require a sheet & some scissors.
- The Ghost costume on It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. The same as above, just cut a few more holes in the costumer.
- Mummy. Also the same as above, but cut strips instead of holes.
- Undercover cop
