One way or the other
May 31st, 2007 @ 11:27 am

When my family built our house we thought, oh that can wait until later. The kitchen cabinets are only temporary, they are fine for now. Ten years later they are still there. I love my house, & it’s fun to always be upgrading & working on things, but sometimes it would be nice to relax somewhere that is already finished like Topsail Island rentals. At Sand Dollar Real Estate you can search for real estate all over the island of Top Sail which is 26 miles long. It’s cool because you can specify the city that you want to be in as well as how many bedrooms you’ll need & your price range. If I can’t have a completed house, I can at least visit one for awhile. Plus, my house isn’t close to a beach, which is another reason to go to Topsail Island. I will have a finished house someday, one way or the other.

Honest Design Star
May 31st, 2007 @ 8:26 am

I had my doubts when David became the design star.  Yes, he is hot, but he is also boring.  I just wasn’t enamored by the premise of his show, "Color Splash".  This had people thinking color splash is actually a phrase & trying to use it in a sentence which was quite frankly just confusing.  Plus, the show doesn’t seem to have a budget, & I would much rather see how to use color for not a lot of money, anyone can make a room look good for tons of money.  (Well, not counting Trading Spaces".)

I think it would be much more interesting if they took the show in the direction of, what it’s like as a designer starting out in Hollywood, more behind the scenes stuff.  The show I did watch had David admitting that he couldn’t work on the room as much as he liked because he is always on the phone.  This was honest, a lot of shows wouldn’t have done this, they usually make it look like only two people are working in the room when it’s more like dozens.  This can be especially discouraging for the average homeowner who thinks that they can remodel a kitchen entirely by themselves in 48 hours because they saw it on TV.  I think they should stop trying to make David a star, & start showing what his life is really like, without scripts.

Ty Pennington
May 30th, 2007 @ 12:36 pm

Several people have expressed shock over Ty Pennington’s DUI that took place earlier this month.  Have we learned nothing from Paris Hilton.  I think we all just expected more of him.  When he was on "Trading Spaces", he was more of a party guy.  Then he started "Extreme Makeover Home Edition", & he just became this angel.  The first few episodes had the team fighting, as they do on all decorating shows.  Where to place a vase in the room is just that serious. Then they all seemed to mellow out, & start working for the greater purpose.  I think his DUI was such a big shock because we’ve come to think of him as the angel that builds houses & gives them to families in need.  I really hope this doesn’t mare the image of the show, because the premise behind it is still angelic.

A house on the vineyard
May 30th, 2007 @ 9:59 am

I’ve always envied the houses on Martha’s Vineyard. I’ve never been there. I don’t even know anyone who owns a house out there, but that is probably because I live in the West. I’ve just always wanted to have one of those summers on the beach, the kind I read about in novels. I want the cool beach house, & the lazy days collecting shells. It just seems like a status symbol, like if you have a home there, you’ve finally arrived. I always picture it as a place where Martha Stewart would live, not just because of the name Martha. It just seems like a very sophisticated, orderly place, that is also a lot of fun. This is true in general for all summer cottages & beach villas in places like Cape Cod, Nantucket, & Florida. I figure, I’m a princess, & I deserve something like Nantucket vacation rentals. This is a great way for anyone to be able to afford the lifestyle that most anyone envies.
