Turn your home into a castle on a budget

grass.jpg I think the trend started with decorating shows. They’d tear out a nasty wall to wall carpet, & then not have money to replace it, so they’d just put an outdoor rug on the floor, because they are so inexpensive. I’ve even seen this style at high end stores, for a lot of money. They are just so scratchy & uncomfortable, the bare floor is more comfortable. You would have to wear your shoes all of the time or else your feet would get torn up.

I almost bought one, I can’t resist a sale, because they don’t look scratchy, but I’m just scared of a scratchy rug & there is nowhere to use as an outdoor rug outside, unless I put one on the lawn. Now there is an idea, no one would notice when the grass wasn’t mowed. I think it’s bringing the outside in thing too far.

It’s no secret that I love DIY projects. However, it’s like cooking, I need a recipe. I have little technical knowledge, so when it comes to something like finding the best shower, I just know that I want a shower that is pretty & has plenty of hot water & water pressure. If left to myself, I’d probably just stand in front of a big hole in the wall & scream “Be a shower”. This doesn’t deliver the best results, trust me.

So, I have to do research to find exactly what kind of shower will get me all of those things. I was checking out a new blog today called DIY Focus which has impartial advice & instructions for all kinds of DIY projects, like hanging wallpaper. Think of them as the DIY cookbook.

I just finished watching “Design Star” Season 2. I have a few questions, like what will happen to David’s show “Color Splash?”. I really don’t think he has what it takes to stay on the air long term, but he’s just lovable & pretty. I just don’t want him to be kicked out once the Season 2 star needs a time slot.

I thought that the contestants were a lot more varied than last season. I didn’t like the setup of the first show. It was the basic, let’s show you thirty people & get you involved with them & then only let ten of them show up next week. There were a few funny moments, like a woman who couldn’t tell why she wanted to be on Design Star. Looks like there will be a lot of drama this season, but I love this show, I can’t help it.

I was watching “Design Remix” & they had a cool idea for a free lampshade. You just need a globe that you don’t want anymore. It looks really cool if it’s a beige globe. All you have to do is pop it open along the seam like you were breaking open an easter egg. Then you have two halves, or lampshades, which should have holes drilled in the bottom already.

My only concern is whether it’s safe to use for high wattage bulbs, it probably depends on the globe. It’s a great, free, lampshade project. Besides the fact that it just sounds fun to break apart a globe.
