Last minute halloween
October 31st, 2007 @ 6:53 am

Ipumpkintower.jpg‘m more than a little late writing a post about Halloween crafts. Martha Stewart probably started her Halloween shows months ago. Then again, no one has ever confused me with Martha. So here are a few ideas for jack o lanterns if you are trying to put something together at the last minute.

The last Halloween event I went to had an assortment of funny noises & glasses & small hats. They had even gotten some foam kits full of teeth & eyes. It was an easy & mess free way to decorate a pumpkin.

Another option is painting a pumpkin with acrylic paint. This saves the hassle of gutting the pumpkin & you can use more color than with traditional carving.

I’ve been seeing a lot of decorative pumpkin carving. These aren’t supposed to look like anything, they are just supposed to be pretty so carve your pumpkin with a series of scrolls, s’, or polka dots.

Look what the dollar store had

HPIM0504.JPG

I was at the dollar store & saw all of this furry yarn. Then I tried to keep myself from jumping up & down. I’d never knit with it before because I hate when I spend more on knitting than I do on food. So my mom & I decided to make scarves for Christmas gifts. I decided to use a knitting loom because we have tons of family & not a lot of time. Besides the fact that I’ve been stressed out lately & wrapping yarn around a peg is about all that I can handle

I’ve been looking around & there are even different stitches that can be done on the knitting loom, but most of the patterns are smarter than I am. So in the end I decided to ignore the fact that the dollar store also had very cute ready made scarves for sell & hopefully everyone will be happy with their handmade presents.

Online crafting

I’ve always wanted to be able to do origami. I’ve tried it a few times, but my Sarakastic-ness (Yes, that’s the official word for it) gets in the way & I end up tearing the paper into little tiny pieces & calling it an art piece. I know, I would’ve though Sarakastic was the most patient person in the world too, but she really isn’t.

I just spent way too much time with the free online paper toy creator which I found while I was stumbling. (I’m talking about using stumble upon, not falling over). The great part about this is there is no clean up, or resulting “art piece”

The spidercatcher
September 10th, 2007 @ 5:44 pm

One of the things that I hate about being a “grown up” & taking care of a house is all of the spiders & bugs. When I was a kid, there was always someone around to catch them. Now it’s my job.

I remember an episode of Gilmore Girls that dealt with this. (Actually, I remember all the episodes of Gilmore Girls). Lorelai trapped a cricket under a paper cup then tape the cup to the floor & then cut holes in the top so the cricket could breathe. Then she waited for Luke to come & take care of it. Since I still haven’t found my Luke, I laughed when I saw this page about how to make a humane spider catcher using pvc pipe & an audiocassette tape case. I’ll have to give this one a try.
